iRobot j7+

This robotic mop and vacuum combination is a rare find that can do both tasks well. IRobot's Combo j7+ has all the features of its j7 counterpart including LiDAR mapping and self-emptying, but also includes additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The j7+ utilizes the new acoustic sensor to determine the type of floor and allows it to vacuum or mop the room during its initial pass. It also makes use of this information to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpet and rugs over those with hard floors.

Like most robotic vacuums, the j7+ is surprisingly quiet when running and it's much quieter when mopping. The maximum reading of 64db on our decibel meter is comparable to normal office chatter.

You can easily create a cleaning schedule and change what happens when the dust canister gets full. The j7+ is also able to be controlled with voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app lets you create and view maps in your home.

The j7+ performed admirably in our tests on hard and carpeted floors, removing most of the dirt that we threw at it. It isn't able to deal with pet hair, large particles and sand. But it is able to clean them with more effort. It has good navigational abilities and two cliff sensors that stop it from falling down stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did notice a couple of small niggles with the j7+. These include that it could snag cords and rugs, and that it doesn't always turn off its mopping when it's done vacuuming. In all other respects, it's an excellent model that checks all the right boxes.

iRobot J7+ is one of the top auto-emptying systems that we've ever tested. It drops its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, where it automatically emptys for you.
