Veterans Disability Lawsuit - How to File a Veterans Disability Lawsuit

A veterans disability lawsuit could be a solution for many veterans who suffer from disabilities resulting from their military service. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides benefits to those who been in the military, such as medical treatment and specialty programs.

However, obtaining these benefits is disproportionately difficult for Black veterans, according to a new lawsuit filed on Monday. The suit was filed on behalf of Conley Monk Jr. by Yale Law School's Veterans Legal Services Clinic.

PTSD

When people experience trauma it can lead them to develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The symptoms can include anxiety, nightmares or flashbacks that cause anxiety. This condition can cause people to avoid places or situations which are reminiscent of their painful experience. This can cause isolation and depression. The good news is that PTSD can be treated with the help of counseling, medication and support from family members.

A lawsuit that was filed by Black veterans and a Yale law clinic has found that the Department of Veterans Affairs has been systematically denying disability compensation claims to Black veterans for decades. NPR's Quil Lawrence says that a whistleblower revealed to the vets that VA internal documents reveal that Black veterans were more often denied benefits than white veterans.

The lawsuit was filed by Marine Vietnam veteran Conley monk and Yale's Veterans Legal Services Clinic. The lawsuit refers to statistics that show that between 2001 between 2001 and 2020, the average rate for Black veterans with disability claims was rejected at 29.5 percent, as compared to 24.2% of white lynn haven veterans disability lawyer.
